About Us

Right To Read, Weld County is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fighting illiteracy and Poverty in the Greeley and Weld County area. Our mission is to provide adults with the necessary education and cultural integration skills to be a beneficial member within their community. We primarily work with the immigrant and refugee population but extend open enrollment to any adult looking to improve their English skills or improve quality of life.

We offer a set of classes ranging from ESL training to GED or Citizenship Preparedness as well as work directly with the Workforce Center of Weld County and other non-profit organizations to ensure financial and social success for the individual and their family. Fighting illiteracy is a major haul in addressing issues of poverty within Weld County.

Our History

Right to Read was founded in 1976 by 25 volunteers and a visionary director who created a program to share their passion for reading and writing with 13 functionally illiterate adults. At that time it was a one-to-one tutoring program with the motto "Each one to teach one."

Since then Right to Read has evolved from the one-to-one model to a classroom model, each with 15-25 students taught by professional instructors and classroom aides. Our modern motto is "Literacy opens worlds,'' worlds previously inaccessible by the English-illiterate adult, worlds of financial stability, success for their children in school, self-reliance, and greater prosperity.

An average of 400 adults and their families attend our classes each year, taking advantage of this avenue of "opening worlds" through literacy instruction.
